My suggestion of using a PC was just to allow somewhere where you could test out MinimServer to compare it with the WD Cloud's stock UPnP media server, so not really intended as a permanent solution. Also they may not be able to run the latest versions (7 or 8) of the Java runtime, which is required by MinimServer. However, some NASs (not the one's mentioned above) make it difficult, if not impossible for DIY installs.

Since most NASs run on Linux, this should in theory allow all those devices to install MinimServer. MinimServer can actually be installed on computers that run on Windows, Linux & OS X (Mac). So NASs by Synology (like the one you mentioned), QNAP and Netgear ReadyNAS. As far as the tracks being 'split up', it should correct it, if the problem is due to an issue with the WD media server and not the meta / tag data contained in the music files themselves.īasically anything that'll run the excellent music dedicated MinimServer UPnP media server would be my recommendation. MinimServer shouldn't have any issues with tracks freezing, re-starts, etc that you are having with the WD My Cloud's media server. You just need to make sure the WD NAS has been set to network share you music files and then add the NAS's shared folder location to MinimServer's content directory list in its configuration properties. WD My Cloud NASs should only be used as a simple storage device to be accessed by its network shared folders and not for network file streaming via its media server.Īs a test, compare network streaming the same music files stored on the WD My Cloud, with the MinimServer UPnP media server I recommended, installed and running on a computer.

They usually use an older buggy version of the Twonky media server for this purpose, which is quite difficult if not impossible to upgrade (depending on the model). Unfortunately, WD My Cloud NASs are known for the pre-installed UPnP media server having problems, particulary for music file streaming. If you remember from our last conversation, I mentioned that if you were thinking of getting a NAS you needed to do your research and make sure you select one that has a decent UPnP/DLNA media server. So if some tracks are not appearing where you expect them it is entirely due to the UPnP/DLNA media server supplying that information to the N-30. In turn, as far as the Music Server function is concerned, the N-30 streamer is just displaying the music category folders and tracks exactly as given to it by the UPnP/DLNA media server. It does not have any intelligence of its own and is only displaying what the N-30 tells it to display, usually a copy of what the Pioneer's own screen is displaying. The Pioneer Control App is just a remote control with display, for the Pioneer streamer, nothing more. However, if you've read Jon's posts, you'll see he's already installed it! For further info, see:Īlso, of course, I agree with your suggestion about MinimServer. Jon is actually using the BubbleUPnP Server on his NAS for its OpenHome Media (ohMedia) emulating functions. Both applications are actually made by the same developer, BubbleSoft (aka Bubbleguuum), hence the similar name.

Some of those functions do actually directly involve helping the BubbleUPnP controller app, but they are all optional and you are right in saying you don't need to use the the BubbleUPnP Server with the BubbleUPnP Android app. It is a UPnP 'helper' server, in the sense that it provdes you with functions to help you get UPnP working properly, even improving it. If by you saying the 'BubbleUPnP Server is not a real server', you mean it's not a UPnP media server, then of course you are correct. If you look back at the posts, you'll see that Jon was recommended the BubbleUPnP app to use as a UPnP controller, but he can't use it as he hasn't got an Android device!

You seem to be confusing the (admittedly) the very similarly named BubbleUPnP controller app for Android with the BubbleUPnP Server helper software, which can run on computers and some NASs. Click to expand.Woah, hold your horses, there Jaap!
